COUNCILLOR Russ Cook may have won the fight for his Division 5 seat in March, but it will be a whole new challenge when he steps into the ring for a charity boxing match raising funds for Connecting Rainbows Inc.
Connecting Rainbows Inc is a local charity group with an aim to aid Volunteers. After recognising the constant struggle of Volunteers who give so much of their time to help – Connecting Rainbows was formed to aid the grassroots members of the region, who are the backbone of any community, event, sporting club or charity, and work with them to strengthen their own passion for volunteering, and the passion of those they work with. Our sole purpose is to reignite the spark amongst Volunteers!
In 2015, Connecting Rainbows successfully reignited the spark and thanked over 50 Volunteers by shouting them a night taking in the Cold Chisel Concert at 1300 Smiles Stadium. Recently, not just across North Queensland but across Australia, there has been a noticeably larger amount of community organisations folding, or having existing heads of organisations stepping down.

Kaylah Banset is raising Funds for: Camp Quality which is a fantastic charity that equips kids and their families affected by cancer with tools that build optimism and resilience so that they may enjoy the very best quality of life. Camp Quality believes in the power of resilience building, optimism and that outside of clinical treatment, laughter is the best medicine.
A couple of weeks ago I was flying home from Cairns on a Friday afternoon, returning from a work trip to find a group of Camp kids checking in in front of me at the airport. The positivity, laughs and smiles were so touching to see from kids stricken by something so ugly as Cancer, this organization really do highlight the importance of optimism, colour, life and fun TO DONATE

Jacinta Jones:  is fighting to raise awareness and funds for Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) 1 in 2400 babies are born with CDH and sadly only ...50% of CDH babies survive. Raising awareness for CDH is something I hold close to my heart as my nephew Olly Raffin (inset) was born with CDH and at 18 months old this little fighter has already had 2 major life saving surgeries in his short life and defeated the odds that were against him. Not only am I wanting to raise awareness for CDH, but, all monies raised will go directly to helping families touched by CDH and to help them, through counselling and other services. This is Olly's fight.  TO DONATE COPY AND PASTE LINK  BELOW

Aaron Mountney Representing Castle Property Inspections and Pest management: Raising Funds for ‎invisible illness‬, specifically, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and Disautonomia. there is no cure and little research into these illnesses. Patients are forced to travel far and wide for accurate diagnosis and treatment and that's if they find a doctor who has heard of the illness.

Shani Boag is local, and a friend of mine who was recently diagnosed with these illnesses. Shani has lost her ability to work for over 18months now, has frequent periods of bed-bound debilitation and regularly needs to travel to Brisbane for medical specialists and treatment. On good days, Shani has just 4-5 hours of true energy and ability - but if she uses that up she needs physical assistance for simple tasks like sitting, standing and walking. Travel is exceptionally difficult with one of these illnesses, let alone two! That's why I'm raising funds to help Shani with her medical costs. This is a local person with not one, but two, highly misunderstood illnesses with no cure, no treatment, and scarce medical help.
You can help me help Shani, by supporting me in the ring, and through donations here,  COPY AND PASTE LINK  BELOW www.chuffed.org/project/boxingforboag

Stephanie Marcus is raising funds for

Miracle Babies Foundation. Every year in Australia around 48,000 newborn babies require the help of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Nursery (SCN). 25,000 of these babies are born premature and up to 1000 babies lose their fight for life.

For families, the experience of having a baby come into the world not as expected or planned is life changing. Without support, this overwhelming and traumatic experience can have lifelong effects on the emotional wellbeing of these miracle families.  It affects the entire family unit.

Since 2005, Miracle Babies Foundation has been passionate in developing and providing vital programs and resources to support and enhance a family’s experience from a threatened pregnancy, hospital journey with a premature or sick newborn, the transition to home and beyond. Miracle Babies provides informative education and insight on a family’s experience and funding for equipment, resources and research.
